Foreign Journalists in North Korea have been warned that a "big and important event" will occur Thursday, April 13th. No information has been given on the nature of this event, but it can’t be ruled out that it will involve South Korea’s nuclear program.
North Korea has threatened a nuclear attack if the US makes any aggressive moves. In response, US Naval forces are quickly headed towards North Korean waters. Chinese President Xi Jinping called US President Donald Trump and urged for a peaceful solution.
The event is part of an early celebration of their founding leaders 105th birthday. They haven’t given any indication of what the event will be, but past events were celebrated with missile launches. In 2012 a long-range ballistic missile that could very well reach the United States was launched, but the launch failed.
The journalists were told to all report at the same place for the big event and that later celebrations regarding the leaders 105th birthday have been canceled. Reporters were not told why North Korean officials were not expecting there to be a celebration later in the week.
The reporters were originally thought to sent to tour Ryomyong street’s new skyscrapers, but apparently, the North Koreans are expecting it not to be a place journalists the journalists should be after the event. Kim Jong Il has been personally seen at the Ryomong’s construction site and seems to have considered what was being built there very important to him.
In general, reporters are very sharply watched, and their access is very limited, they must go through a lot of screening and have good reason to see Kim Jong Il.
While some thing it is an event related to the Nuclear program missile launch others thing it may just be something simple like a concert or other small event. The United States and China, however, seem to be on edge.
